Flop City #8: Dr. Dre

Mr. Aftermath himself has landed a spot on Flop City and I’ve got a few words for this guy, read what I got to say about him after the jump.

I’ve got a lot of words for the Doctor of Hip Hop, I was hoping he could cure the current state of Hip Hop but after a few months I’ve realize his old ass is too lazy to drop anything. Maybe he’s too busy with other people’s projects and his Beats By Dre headphones that he can’t even work on his own album, well I say f**k the other projects. You wasted your time with Game’s project, and forget 50′s and Eminem’s projects they can wait and chill.

Let’s talk the leaked track “Under Pressure” featuring Jay-Z which was suppose to be the first single off Detox until it leaked, I’m glad the track leaked, that sh*t was horrible. The production was not that good, and the song overall had nothing special to it.

Fast forwarding to the newer first single of “Kush” featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon, everybody clearly wanted Nate Dogg on the hook but unfortunately he was too sick to get on the track. That could be the reason it flopped since Nate Dogg and Dr. Dre together is an instant classic. I liked this single, but the sh*t flopped hard, the production was dope, Snoop did his thing, Dr. Dre had a few dope bars and Akon well he wasn’t really needed on the track. Overall the track flopped and didn’t manage to do much for Dr. Dre’s buzz, I guess they only accept weed music from younger rappers like Wiz Khalifa and not by a 50 year old man.

Few months later Dr. Dre decides to get Eminem on his Second Single which ended up being “I Need A Doctor” featuring Skylar Grey and Eminem. I think the track was okay, the subject was dope, I like how Eminem says Dr. Dre is either getting to lazy to drop some new music or he is second guessing his music skills. Eminem was featured too much on this track it felt like it was Eminem’s record more then Dr. Dre’s. Overall the single debuted pretty high but ended up not doing something good, it was a jump from “Kush” though.

Fast forwarding to now, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent might drop a track entitled “The Psycho” I wanted to wait until that dropped to see if the Doctor got his shit together but since he is so lazy to drop it or he is second guessing what singles to drop. On top of all this the stupid hate they have for each other (Dre & 50) needs to end. They need to come back to the 2003 and how they use to be together forget who’s headphones is better and focus on the music.

What do you guys think overall? is Dr. Dre not to confident in his music? is he too busy working on other projects to work on his own music? or is he becoming too lazy to even drop anything? I have no clue which one it is, but hopefully “Detox” drops before the Doctor himself dies, I have no clue if this album will ever see the end of the tunnel but one thing for sure is it will be the most talked about album in hip hop history.

Dre is waiting for that ”right moment” to drop the album. Problem is, he’s so out of touch that he doesn’t know what right timing is, and doesn’t know what his fan base wants. That being said, making your fans wait 10 years for an album is just irritating.

Dr. Dre’s problem is he takes himself too seriously. He realizes the pressure he’s created for himself with this long wait and doesn’t want to be rejected. This is definitely the last album he’ll ever drop, so if it sucks (which, given the unrealistic hype that the album must live up to because of the long wait, it absolutely will), he’ll go out of the game as a disappointment. He knows that. I say Dr. Dre should put his ego and fear about his legacy aside, put out the album (some wacky shit would be the best way to go, given his situation), and have some fun. Everyone knows the hype is too big for whatever the album can deliver, so just Nike it up! Glengarry Glen Ross your balls, Dre, and put out your 1 album with 20 or less songs, for fuck sake! Because at the end of the day, if you go out without releasing Detox, you’ll be a disgrace anyway. “Dre Bitched out” is what they’ll say. And they’ll be right.

I think a man as accomplished as dre deserves to be lazy or take his time. Dude worked hard for so long. And now if he takes his time or has other endeavors you say he flopped. He doesn’t have to drop detox. Fans will just say ” not as good as his last”. So what’s the point?

How Can DR Dre be in flop city he doesnt drop albums and the two he has dropped were game changing plus he doesnt need to sell albums he is a legend in not only hip hop but music as a whole he is one of the hardest working musicians on the planet
BOTTOM LINE HE IS A PRODUCER AND HE KILLS IN sales every 10 years he drops a project take him out of the category please

The thing is, Dr. Dre is not in Flop City, because he hasn’t flopped yet. He’s a perfectionist, and being a perfectionist, I think he’s lost into what he’s doing. Production is a lot for him and he kills at it, so you can’t blame him for escaping into production for others instead of working on his own Album. He’s gonna make that album though and it will be the most talked about album.. ever.
